The first attempts to create the Department of History of Administration took place in the early 70s (1970–1972). However, they ended in failure, mainly because they were premature. At that time, the process of defining the history of administration and determining a chronological framework was only at its beginnings. The next attempt, made in 1984, was a success. According to the decree of the Rector of the Bolesław Bierut University of Wrocław, on 1 November 1984, at the Institute of History of State and Law at the Faculty of Law and Administration, there was created the Department of History of Administration. The establishment of the Department of History of Administration and its further development are inextricably linked with the person of Professor Alfred Konieczny, who was its first and long-time head. The particular attention was paid to the scientific, educational and organizational activity of Professor Alfred Konieczny and other people employed in the Department.
