The term sustainable development is getting more and more interdisciplinary. It also doesn't pass over the issues of shaping public spaces and city design. Dissemination of sustainable design is a reaction on fast economic growth and rapid growth of global population, loss of natural resources and also unification of culture. At the same time public space becomes more and more important as one of the key factors determining the quality of life. Sustainable design is a design in the system context to improve the systems in terms of their coexistence. Its results come from the environment as well as social needs. They are analysed in terms of esthetic, functional and commercial aspects improving quality of life and minimizing its potential negative impact on the natural environment.
