At the 68th session of the Lower House of the Polish Parliament – the Sejm – President of NIK Krzysztof Kwiatkowski presented the Report on the Activity of the Supreme Audit Office in 2017. In 2017, NIK conducted 2,196 audits comprising 1,843 entities. The most important areas for the citizens’ life quality and the state’s operations were audited during 110 planned audits, including state budget execution audit, which – regarded as one exercise – actually consisted of 327 audits conducted at 307 auditees. NIK also carried out 107 ad hoc audits in response to emerging information on important irregularities. This information was often received from citizens who in 2017 submitted over 5,000 complaints and suggestions for audits. Almost 3 percent of the audits conducted were complaints and proposals submitted by the Members of the Parliament and parliamentary bodies. Additionally, at the request of NIK other audit bodies carried out 515 audits, which is by over 200 more than in the previous year. In 2017, NIK also conducted eight audits together with Supreme Audit Institutions of other countries.
