The article describes the beginnings and the contemporary picture of psychoanalysis and its key representatives who addressed the issues connected with education and upbringing in Poland and other countries. It presents critical views on psychoanalysis and its selected negative outcomes in educational practices on the basis of contemporary pedagogical thought and the relations of psychoanalysis with transactional analysis, which are frequently ambiguous and controversial. Educational transactional analysis, together with psychoanalysis, can become inspirational and useful areas offering effective solutions in pedagogical theory and practice.
