Russian historical literature dedicated to Peter Stolypin makes very few references to the accomplishments of Peter's brother Dmitri and his father general Arkady Stolypin. Most publications focus on the Vilnius period of 1865-1874 when Dmitri and Arkady actively collaborated with Mikhail Muraviov, Konstantin von Kaufmann and other governor-generals in the process of Russification of Lithuania. The article relies on previously unknown archival materials to describe the role played by general Arkady Stolypin and his son Dmitri in a library committee that selected books for libraries, bookshops and Vilnius printing houses. It discusses their mem- bership in the North-Western Section of the Russian Imperial Geographical Society, and presents general Stolypin's ideas for quick Russification of Lithuanian and Belarusian people, which were promulgated in several publications and two secret petitions, presently found in Lithuanian and Russian archives.
