The author demonstrates that the fact that a lay person – an expert on media matters, Vladimir Legoida – became the press spokesman for the Moscow Patriarchate, had a positive impact on the image of the Church in Russia. He has made it his goal to not merely enliven the Church’s contacts with the media, but to make the Church’s voice heard – and recognized – as important in the media. His efforts have borne fruit, which has been reflected in public opinion surveys that place the Patriarch and the Orthodox Church among the most popular parties and politicians..
