Artykuł omawia pilotażowe badanie pojedynczego wystąpienia publicznego pod względem multimodalnych przejawów negowania ze szczególnym naciskiem na relacje pomiędzy znakami i oznakami negacji i afirmacji. Materiałem było nagranie audiowizualne anotowane w programie ELAN z zastosowaniem szablonu, który poza transkrypcją tekstu wypowiedzi umożliwia opis m.in. gestów rąk (z kilkunastoma szczegółowymi cechami), ruchów ramion i głowy, kierunku spojrzenia czy mimiki. Zaobserwowanie czasowych korelacji pomiędzy poszczególnymi środkami wyrażania pozwoliło na uchwycenie kilku podkategorii multimodalnych komunikatów o znaczeniu negującym: negacji definitywnych, negacji pozornie niespójnych, negacji wzmocnionych, negacji wyłącznie niewerbalnych, negacji ironicznych i negacji werbalnych z towarzyszeniem gestu wyrażającego niezaprzeczone treści.

The article gives an analysis of a single public speech in respect of multimodal displays of negation. It emphasises especially the relations between signs and symptoms of negation and affirmation. The data — an audiovisual recording — has been annotated using ELAN with a template, which besides a text transcription enables a description of i.a. hand gestures (with a few specific features), arm and head movements, gaze and mimics. Observation of the temporal coordination between the respective means of expression let to distinct some subcategories of multimodal negative utterances: definitive negations, seemingly mismatched negations, amplifying negations, exclusively non-verbal negations, ironic negations and verbal negations accompanied by gestures of non-negated predicates.
