By now the town has already lost its economic role which it had in the past. An unquestionable value o f the town lies nowadays in its beauty inherent in the unity of natural landscape and buildings erected by its inhibitants as well as examples of old architecture from the times of the town’s prosperity. The beauty o f Kazimierz predestines it to the role o f the touristic centre. This new role would call for new buildings. In order to fulfill their task, the buildings will have to: — be subordinated to the studies on the absorptive power of the landscape for a new architecture; be maintained on a small scale and situated in such a way so that they would expose various spatial dimensions, forming the contrast between the Market Square and surrounding alleys; — be shaped architecturally in such a way so that the people could take them as the outcome o f a ’’biological” development and not as a result o f active creativity. When putting up new buildings at Kazimierz it must be remembered that every new structure is encroaching upon a picturesque landscape and it is thus our duty not to diminish existing values o f the town.
