The conservation work carried out in the parish church at Haczów in 1959 and 1970—1975 gave the grounds to ascertain that its interior had been decorated with paintings, or whitewashed, fiv e times. The author deals with the respective paintings r e vealed in the course of the inevstigations. The oldest layer dates from, the m id-l5 th century. Traces have been preserved o f its red paint and Gothic letters. The second layer, from 1494, covered the whole surface o f the walls and ceiling. One o f its remnants is the large scene of Crucifixion, with a panorama of Jesuralem in the background. In 1789 that polychromy was whitened what is confirmed by a chronicler’s record so far misinterpreted as a mention about a new painting. The fact of the Gothic polychromy having been whitewashed is also confirmed by a stratigraphie analysis o f the poly chromy. Another layer of whitewash was applied in the early 19th century, and in its first half the interior of the church was altered and decorated again this time, with paintings representing motives of visionary architecture. In the course o f conservator’s research existence has been ascertained of two layers of paintings, similar as regarded their technological aspect. Hence the resultant conclusion about a change of the artist’s concept or a correction made by him. Moreover, in the church concerned there were also found eleven loose boards with Gothic polychromy also covered with two layers of whitewash what has confirmed the earlier conclusion regarding the preserved wall paintings. In the future the boards will be matched with the paintings preserved on the ceiling of the parish church at Haczów.
