akademickiej w odwołaniu do metafory podróży.

The article aims to give theoretical consideration to the manner of being a student and an academic, using the metaphor of a journey. The focus of the analysis is narrowed to special education as a scientific branch and a field of study. The author tries to capture what is hidden under the surface of students’ and researchers’ tourist and travel experiences and to get to the philosophical roots of cognition. The message emerging from this examination is crucial for the development of the branch and for students’ education. The expected form of students’ traveling is such a journey that enables them to free themselves of judgments on things they have become accustomed to in their everyday life and which they believe (naively and unquestioningly) in the sphere of their deep convictions. And cognition that goes against the tide of the established obvious is crucial for the development of educational knowledge. The article is composed of two main parts. In the first part, the analysis focuses on the contemporary characteristics of education in comparison with the characteristics of former journeys. In the other part, approaches to cognition are compared with the related educational patterns of a tour of science. The author outlines the multi-paradigmatic nature of special education and the picture of students’ journey/tourism in the scientific town of special education against the concepts of a journey found in Montesquieu’s output (including his notes on his own journeys), which reflect his approach to cognition, and against Bachelard’s views on cognition. The article ends with a special appeal to students preceded with a reference to their thoughts on the time of their studying special education.
