Moral values in surnames derived from common names in Warmia (the 16th–18th centuries)

Abstracts
The article is an attempt at reconstructing value-loaded lexical content from Polish and German surnames. The names were recorded in Warmia between the 16th and 18th centuries. The research has revealed a set of moral values referred to in creating the analysed names. The lexical content encompasses the following semantic fields: honesty-dishonesty; kindness, friendly attitude to people people – hostile attitude; sincerity – insincerity; gentleness – impetuosity. The above mentioned classes included lexical content representing moral values and their anti-values. Pragmatic-lexical analysis revealed the existence of anthroponyms derived from lexemes which had a moral valuation by culturally based connotation
