Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie powiązań między religią a współczesnymi ruchami fundamentalistycznymi stosującymi przemoc w swoich działaniach. Zwraca się uwagę na fakt, iż wielowymiarowa obecność religii dostarcza wierzącym modelowego obrazu świata. Oprócz jej pozytywnej, ekumenicznej roli dostrzega się, iż religia może stać się podłożem społeczno-kulturowego sporu. Powstaje on na skutek zderzenia różnorodności i lęku kolektywnych społeczności przed utratą własnej tożsamości. Autorzy starają się udowodnić, iż siła przemocy, jaka wiąże się z tym zjawiskiem, jest pochodną kulturowego statusu religii, który dzięki globalizacji nabiera znacznie szerszego kontekstu.

The article presents the links between religion and contemporary violent fundamentalist movements. Attention is given to the fact that the multidimensional presence of religion gives the believers a model view of the world. Besides this positive and ecumenical role, religion may also become the foundation of social and cultural dispute resulting from clashes of differences and from fears felt by communities of losing their identity. A proof is provided that the violence related to this phenomenon originates from the cultural status of religion in the expanding context of globalization.
