Zjawisko globalnej nędzy jest powszechnie traktowane jako najpoważniejsze albo jedno z najpoważniejszych wyzwań stojących przed współczesnym światem, zarówno z perspektywy politycznej, jak i moralnej. Likwidacja globalnej nędzy deklarowana jest jako główny cel przez międzynarodowe instytucje polityczne, jak np. ONZ, ale też instytucje globalnego społeczeństwa obywatelskiego. Zadanie to wyznacza również bardzo istotny obszar działania Kościołów chrześcijańskich. Artykuł omawia istotę zaangażowania największej ekumenicznej organizacji, jaką jest Światowa Rada Kościołów, w walkę z globalną nędzą, przedstawia skrótowo przykłady podejmowanych przez nią aktywności oraz przybliża przyjęte przez nią teologiczne fundamenty.

Global poverty is the most serious, or one of the most serious, political and moral challenges today. International political institutions like UN, and global civil organisations, declare the elimination of the global poverty as their main objective. Christian churches also work very hard towards this goal. The article presents the most important efforts in this regard done by the largest ecumenical organisations, the World Council of Churches, and the theological basis for their involvement.
