Present thesis concerns the influence of the flamenco music on Manuel de Falla’s ballets. Manuel de Falla was the 20-th century spanish composer. In classical compositions Falla often had been inspired by the artistry of flamenco however the most had been shown in his ballets. The purpose of this study was to investigate which elements of flamenco has been used by Falla and approach to spanish folk music on an example of El sombrero de tres picos. The story – a magistrate infatuated with a miller’s faithful wife attempts to seduce her – derives from the novella by Pedro Antonio de Alacón. The composition history is very intresting because Manuel de Falla first wrote pantonima ballets – El corregidor y la molinera – based on this novella. Sergei Diaghilev, of the Ballet Ruses, saw the premiere of El corregidor y la molinera and commissioned Falla to rewrite it. The outcome was a two-act ballet scored for large orchestra called El sombrero de tres picos. Not only the text is about the spanish customs and people but throughout the ballet Falla uses traditional Andalusian folk music. I would like to exhibit and prove it.
