Kongregacja Rozkrzewiania Wiary (de Propaganda Fide) od powstania w 1622 r. podejmowała starania mające na celu dobre przygotowanie i formację misjonarzy i kleru na terenach misyjnych. Miało to zapewnić powstanie tam stabilnej struktury duchowieństwa i utworzenie lokalnej hierarchii Kościoła. Kongregacja kładła nacisk na formację w duchu poszanowania rodzimych kultur i dialogu z innymi religiami. Przez wiele lat sprawowała opiekę nad papieskimi kolegiami w całej Europie, kształcącymi przyszłych misjonarzy. W 1627 r. powołała do życia Collegio Urbano, z którego wywodzi się obecny Papieski Uniwersytet Urbanianum, mające kształcić w Rzymie kandydatów do kapłaństwa pochodzących z terenów podległych jej jurysdykcji. Z czasem Uniwersytet stał się główną jednostką akademicką w rozwoju misjologii, z jedyną na świecie Papieską Biblioteką Misyjną. Również w 1627 r. Kongregacja otworzyła wydawnictwo i drukarnię Tipografia Poliglotta, drukującą na użytek misjonarzy katechizmy i przekłady Biblii w wielu językach lokalnych.

The Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith (de Propaganda Fide), from its foundation in 1622 made efforts to prepare and form missionaries as well as clergy in mission areas. This was to ensure the emergence of a stable structure of the clergy and the creation of a local Church hierarchy. It emphasized formation in the spirit of respect for native cultures and dialogue with other religions. For many years it took care of papal colleges throughout Europe educating future missionaries. In 1627 it founded the Collegio Urbano from which the present Pontifical University Urbanianum originated, to educate candidates for the priesthood in Rome from the territories under its jurisdiction. Over time the university became a leading academic unit in the development of missiology with the only Pontifical Mission Library in the world. Also in 1627 the Congregation opened a publishing house and printing house Tipografia Poliglotta which printed catechisms and Bible translations for the missionaries in many local languages.
