Introduction: The subject of the research is the attitude students of private and public colleges have towards learning. The aim of the research is to explain the relation between the sense of subjectivity as the locus of control as well as orientation to life, which is understood as the sense of coherence, versus the learning style of PE students in private and public colleges, which is often modified by cultural and educational background of students’ parents, their support and active pastime. Materials and methods: 181 students participated in the research. Their learning styles were analysed in terms of quantity and quality. Research tools used in the study included: questionnaires – in order to analyse the educational habits, students grade sheets – in order to analyse the grade average score, orientation to life questionnaire (SOC-29) – in order to assess the sense of coherence, Rotter’s Internal-External-Scale – in order to assess the placement of control and other questionnaires – in order to analyse the educational and cultural aspirations of parents and students as well as the level of physical activity in leisure time. In the quality research, the technique of controlled and narrative interview was used. Conclusions: There is a correlation between the learning style and the students‘ behaviour as well as educational achievements. There is no correlation between the sense of subjectivity and the learning style. The hypothesis on the relation between the global life orientation, expressed as the sense of coherence, and the attitude towards studying was not confirmed. There is correlation between educational aspirations of students and their learning style and hievements. The phenomenon of ‘educational pretense’ was observed. Private college students present an unacademic learning style and get, often inadequate to their educational behaviour, high grades.
