In the age of the dynamic development of international relations, especially in economics and law, it is essential to train students of neophilological departments in translation of specialist texts. The article presents the place and role of specialist texts taking philological studies, especially occupational translatorics departments, as an examples. Specialist texts may be translated during taught caurses designed for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Especially postgraduate students are linguistically well prepared to take additional classes in order to improve their skills in translation of specialist texts. Moreover, by taking the additional classes, the students may broaden their interest in economics, law, medicine etc. and improve specialist knowledge. They may also acquire additional (apart from factual and linguistic) competence, i.e. terminological and textual. The article presents certain important issues concerning training of university staff teaching translation of specialist text, which needs to be discussed by Germanists. It is also essential to pay attention to extralinguistic knowledge of lecturers in translation of specialist texts and the quality of their extralingustic knowledge.
