The paper discusses the sacred- profane dichotomy displayed in a few chosen texts belonging to the secondary school syllabus. An attempt will be made to decide if the sacred and the profane spheres should be differentiated or rather identified with each other. First of all, Pan Tadeusz, an epic poem by Adam Mickiewicz is worth noticing. The sacred is displayed owing to the presentation of the setting together with all the inevitable changes that motivate the feelings of nostalgia for the good old days. Thus, one can easily notice various dimensions of the sacred sphere. Yet, the traces of the sacred can be revealed in other texts, such as Sklepy cynamonowe by Brunon Schulz, Lalka by Bolesław Prus, Nieboska komedia by Zygmunt Krasiński and Chłopi by Władysław Stanisław Reymont. In addition, attention will be paid to vital religious notions and to the process of teaching as well.
