Staphylea pinnata L. occurs in southern regions of Poland, especially in the polish part of the Carpathians. This tall deciduous shrub was grown from time immemorial in traditional rural gardens. Bladdernut was a shrub with many uses. Its hard seeds were used for making rosaries’ beads.It’s very hard wood was used as material of butter-making dashers and small crosses. Branches of this plant were blessed in churches as component of palms during the Palm Sunday celebrations. Now, the variety of traditional uses of bladdernut are actually almost extinct, but are still remembered by the most elderly people.
