This article concerns the concept of mystery, which is used in Christian liturgy. The author in his reflexion points out that the concept has become one of the greatest discoveries of the twentieth century theology. It became possible thanks to O. Casel’s work, who did not hesitate to compare the liturgy of the Church with ancient mystery cults. In the center of the Christian mystery is always Jesus Christ, who offered salvation to people in the Paschal event. Today the realization of this event takes place in the mystery of liturgy. That cultic mystery remains the same as the substance of the mystery of Christ but differs in the way of existence. In this article author reminds about big concern for the Christian initiation in the ancient Church, and indicates that thanks to the reform of the liturgy we once again have access to this valuable experience in a renewed form. Referring to the suggestion by Pope Benedict XVI author sees in art of mystagogy a chance for greater fruitfulness of the Christian mystery in the life of the faithful.
