Ochrona drobnego inwestora leży w interesie gospodarki, zwiększa bowiem zarówno wielkość akumulacji, jak i poszerza społeczna bazę inwestowania. Ponadto drobni inwestorzy tworzą niezbędną płynność dla rynku kapitałowego, jak również pełnią niezastąpioną rolę w absorpcji innowacji rynkowych. Pozyskiwanie drobnych inwestorów jest ważnym interesem głównych uczestników rynku (giełdy, domów maklerskich). Stąd ich ochrona jest w podstawowym zakresie zapewniona przez system rynku. Zwiększenie bezpieczeństwa ich działania nie musi się wiązać z bezpośrednimi, skierowanymi na drobnych inwestorów działaniami regulacyjnymi. Najważniejsze jest wspieranie oddolnych procesów zmierzających do uzyskania wysokiego poziomu transparentności, tworzenia i przestrzegania kodeksów dobrych praktyk korporacyjnych.

The protection of individual investors stimulates economic development. It increases capital formation and enlarges the social basis of the investment process. Additionally, it ensures sufficient liquidity and plays a vital part in the market's absorption of newly invented products. The acquisition of the small investor has become an important goal for the main players on the capital market, therefore the protection of the small investor is getting support from the whole system. This does not mean that new regulations specially directed at small investors are in order, as it is far more important to promote grass-roots initiatives that aim to improve transparency and apply the code of good corporate governance.
