Nowe metody badań zachowań konsumentów, w tym rezultaty poznawcze neuromarketingu, pozwalają na doskonalenie wiedzy na temat procesów decyzyjnych nabywców. Rozwój ekonomii behawioralnej podkreśla znaczenie sfery emocjonalnej w zachowaniach konsumentów. Pozwala to na coraz bardziej skuteczne stosowanie technik marketingowych w procesie badania oraz zaspokajania jawnych i niejawnych potrzeb nabywców. Wszystko to wpływa na wzrost poziomu i zmianę struktury konsumpcji, której związki z rozwojem społeczno-gospodarczym stają się coraz bardziej złożone i trudne do przewidywania. Rodzi to zapotrzebowanie na prowadzenie interdyscyplinarnych badań nad konsumpcją i jej związkami z rozwojem społeczno-gospodarczym.

The new methods of surveys of consumers' behaviour, including cognitive results of neuromarketing, allow improvement of our knowledge of the purchasers' decision-making processes. Development of the behavioural economy emphasises importance of the emotional sphere in consumers' behaviour. This allows for more and more efficient use of marketing techniques in the research process and meeting consumers' explicit and implicit needs. All this affects growth of the level and change of the consumption pattern whose relations with the socio-economic development become more and more complex and difficult to foresee. This entails the demand for carrying out interdisciplinary surveys on consumption and its relations with the socio-economic development.
