During the recent years, a myriad of information has come to light about foreign volunteers who served in the French armies during the First World War. On the occasion of the centenary of the Great War, data has been uploaded on the internet showing the total number of Austro-Hungarian nationalities who served in the French Foreign Legion during this latter event. Secondary sources put the number of the Austro-Hungarians serving in the French Foreign Legion to 1,369, although the database may not contain this exact number of military documents. Research on these latter is an ongoing process, but a great deal of partial information has already been gathered. Consequently, this paper will answer the question of how many of the above-mentioned Austro-Hungarian legionnaires died for France during World War I.
