The text is organized in two parts. The first part is an attempt to read anew the life and creativity of Janusz korczak, as it is represented in pedagogy and the public discourse. Next, by placing the postulates of korczak up against events related in the media, and laws presently in force in Poland, a noticeable lack of change in the status and condition of childhood for a great many children, is indicated. This confrontation is used to formulate the conclusion that another way of reading korczak should be brought to bear: one that recognizes with shame that the activity begun by the great Polish pedagogue so many decades ago has still not come to fruition.
