In order to stop the digital exclusion of the Polish society, it is vital to invest in people and educational systems. It is education what prepares citizens who are to inform, communicate and learn with the use of ICT. Therefore it is important to acquire ICT skills in the formal, non-formal and informal way. The article attempts to answer the following research problems: Which are the key skills necessary to live in the information society? How is ICT used in schools in Europe? What supports the development of adult computer education in the local communities?
