Planowanie polityki społecznej w Wielkopolsce stanowi jedno z głównych zadań celowych samorządu na szczeblu wojewódzkim. Wagę tej problematyki przedstawia przyjęta przez samorząd Strategia Rozwoju Województwa Wielkopolskiego do 2020 r. oraz oddzielne: Strategia Polityki Społecznej i Strategia Zatrudnienia. Strategie te powstały jako regionalne odpowiedniki strategii opracowanych przez Unię Europejską oraz strategii krajowych: Strategii Rozwoju Kraju 2020, Strategii Rozwoju Regionalnego oraz Strategii Rozwoju Kapitału Ludzkiego 2020.

Many analyses conducted in Greater Poland indicate that the local differences in this region are large and invariable when we take into account e.g. the level of unemployment. That is why in their social and employment strategies regional authorities stress support for local cooperation thanks to which they aim to achieve three main in region goals: 1) increasing the residents’ employment and mobility, 2) coordination of investments in education and lifelong learning, 3) increasing the value of labor relations with social integration and poverty reduction. The assumption is that coordination of both strategies can be better accomplished by providing local authorities with assistance in creating their own paths of local development.
