Celem artykułu jest zbadanie procesu polaryzacji ekonomicznej w Hiszpanii w latach 1955– 2013. Artykuł składa się z dwóch części. Pierwsza część (pkt. 1 i 2) ma charakter metodologiczny. Wyjaśnione są tu różnice pomiędzy miarami polaryzacji a miarami nierówności oraz metodologia wybranych miar polaryzacji, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem miary zaproponowanej przez J. Esteban i D. Ray. W drugiej części (pkt 3) artykułu zbadano polaryzację ekonomiczną pomiędzy autonomicznymi regionami Hiszpanii w latach 1955–2013. Z przeprowadzonych obliczeń wynika, że w Hiszpanii w analizowanym okresie utrzymywała się tendencja do redukcji poziomu polaryzacji ekonomicznej i tym samym poszerzania się klasy średniej. Tendencja ta została zahamowana jednak w wyniku światowego kryzysu zapoczątkowanego w 2007 r. Wówczas poziom polaryzacji ekonomicznej w Hiszpanii zaczął wzrastać.

The aim of this paper is to examine the process of economic polarization in Spain in the years 1955–2013. The paper consists of two parts. The fi rst part (sections 1 and 2) is methodological. It explains the differences between the measures of polarization and inequality, and the methodology of polarization measure, with particular emphasis on measures elaborated by J. Esteban and D. Ray. The second part of the paper (section 3) includes an empirical examination of the economic polarization between the autonomous regions of Spain in the years 1955–2013. The calculations show that there was a trend to reduce the level of economic polarization that meant expanding of middle class. This trend was however stopped by the global crisis, which started in 2007. Then the level of economic polarization in Spain began to grow.

Целью статьи является исследование процесса экономической поляризации в Испании в 1955-2013 гг. Первая часть (пункты 1 и 2) имеет методологический характер. В ней объясняются различия между мерами поляризации и мерами неравенства, а также методология избранных мер поляризации с особым учётом меры, предложенной Д. Эстебаном и Д. Рейем. Во второй части (пункт 3) исследуется экономическая поляризация между автономными регионами Испании в 1955-2013 гг. Из проведенных расчётов вытекает, что в Испании в анализируемый период сохранялась тенденция к сокращению уровня экономической поляризации и, как результат, к расширению среднего класса. Однако эта тенденция была приостановлена в результате мирового кризиса, начавшегося в 2007 г. Тогда уровень экономической поляризации в Испании начал расти.
