The paper is a theoretical research in onomastics and its objective is to establish place names significance in folklore, folklore onyms in the system of names and national culture. The key notion under study is the problem of folklore onym space that is connected with spread of the notion "onomastic space" used in Slavic (especially Russian, Ukrainian) or "onym space". The author specifies the idea of national onym space, substantiates relevance of "folklore onym space" use and defines the place of the system of proper names in the national onym system
