Conflict, though it may be constructive, usually negatively affects the relationship between the parties, sometimes preventing cooperation. Therefore, in such situations, it is necessary to use an intermediary. Mediator must have extensive knowledge, appropriate skills. Social abilities are also needed. Apart from this, there are no requirements as to mediator’s education and experience. Except from the disputes in criminal matters, everyone is able to mediate. Does this mean that the work of a mediator is a profession or vocation? The purpose of this article is to answer the above question.
