igor Newerly (1903-1987) originating from a Czech-russian-polish family was characterized by polish national identity, which he expressed in his works on, among others, Far-eastern and Siberian topics. in Manchuria occupied by the Japanese the story in Leśne morze (Forest sea) is placed. Siberia is the scenery for the plot of Wzgórze Błękitnego Snu (Hill of the Blue Dream). the characters in both these novels are polish people staying in a multinational and multireligious environment. the two historical novels by igor Newerly are examples of reference to the output of both polish and foreign literature. at the same time they are original works. the writer was inspired to a greater degree by his own life and ideological experience than by the output of other authors.
