The era of Prussian rule after the third partition of Poland was a very special period for Warsaw. The demand for Polish grain increased in war-torn Western Europe, but most of the proceeds were squandered during lavish parties thrown in cities. Numerous balls and receptions were staged regardless of the cost. Young men would take up the most absurd and boisterous activities to channel their energy and youthful enthusiasm. They joined various associations to stage group attacks on members of other organizations. The problem was recognized by Polish military leader Wincenty Krasiński who argued that the young generation had to be encouraged to achieve nobler and loftier goals. However, somebody else commanded young soldiers during the battles of Samosierra, Wagram, Berezino and the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig. Many young men lost their lives, others became disillusioned with the French Emperor, nonetheless, he gave them a chance for a better future and a new hope that filled their youthful hearts and discouraged them from participating in rampant revelry.
