The objective of the paper is to present methodological principles used in analysing stakeholder preferences in the context of negotiations planning and to discuss the practical application of those principles in a particular project. The analysis of stakeholder negotiations in project management is first discussed. This is followed by a discussion of general methodological rules of such analysis along with a specific model for analysing stakeholder preferences, based on multi-criteria decision making theory. An empirical presentation of stakeholder preference analysis for an IT project concludes the paper.
