Powstaje zatem pytanie o zasadność stosowania miar alternatywnych w sytuacji, gdy poddawany szerokiej krytyce tradycyjny wskaźnik Sharpe’a prowadzi do niemalże identycznych wniosków.

Sharpe ratio is largely used both in the literature and in practice to value hedge fund investment efficiency. Nevertheless, it is based on the standard deviation which requires taking the assumption on the normal distribution of rates of return. Such applications are widely criticized, and have led to the creation of new measures, most frequently referred to in the literature as alternative measures. However, alternative measures generate higher human factor risk reflected in calculation errors. At the same time the research done by the author shows that hedge fund strategies rankings made with the use of Sharpe ratio and alternative measures such as Omega ratio, Sortino ratio and Kappa ratio are identical. There arises a question concerning the validity of alternative measures application when Sharpe ratio gives such similar results.
