Prof. Randy Schekman, Nobel-Prize-Winner in 2013, strongly criticized the most prestigous scientific journals like Nature, Cell and Science, that are distorting the scientific process. According to him Open Access to research publications can break the tyranny of leading toll access journals. The article presents, how scholarly communication is changing and how stakeholders derive benefits from openess in science. Numerous academical institutions all over the world implement open policies. Results of publicly financed scientific research should be accesible with no economical, legal or technical obstacles. Toll access journals and their publishers counterattack and convince that openness in science cause decay in quality. Transformation of scholarly communication in Poland provides examples of moving towards openess. Noticeable part of Polish scientists publish their articles in open access journals or deposit their works in open access repositories, significant percent of publishers implement open access policies. Nevertheless openess in science requires policies implemented by governments, research funders and universities.
