Ethnic groups other than Poles and Czechs are seldom mentioned when discussing the history of Cieszyn Silesia. This article concerns Italians, who were also an integral part of the socio-cultural fabric of the region. Italian migration to Cieszyn Silesia still continues to be largely underresearched. This text does not attempt to exhaust the topic, since it concerns the industrial part of the region, and is limited to a specific timeframe. The article consists of two parts. The theoretical part contains a summary of the general history of Italian migration (i.a. to the Ostrava-Karviná Basin), as well as basic information about the causes of mass migration from Italy at the turn of the century. The second part contains information about specific Italian families who settled in Cieszyn Silesia. This study is mostly based on data from parish registers from parishes in Karviná, Fryštát, Doubrava and Polish Ostrava. It is therefore an overview of information available in parish registers, and may constitute a starting point for further research on Italian migration to Cieszyn Silesia.
