The main aim of this article is to analyze the category of smart power in international relations theory and political theory. It includes the descriptive overview of the application of smart power in the theory of foreign policy as well as provides practical references to the policy of the United States of America. Joseph Nye defined this term as the ability to combine hard and soft power into a winning strategy. This article will examine the differences between the concept of hard power, soft power and smart power. The author tries to show the advantages and disadvantages of these analytical concepts.
