W badaniach wykorzystane zostały dane jakościowe zdobyte za pomocą techniki pogłębione‑ go wywiadu swobodnego przeprowadzonego wśród osób z niepełnosprawnością ruchową. Ana‑ liza i interpretacja materiału badawczego prowadzona była zgodnie z procedurami metodologii teorii ugruntowanej.
Purpose of the article is to find out how emergence of a permanent body dysfunction causes significant transformations in self-perception by a man that previously had full control over their body. The article raises the notions of transformations taking place in a disabled person’s life, who became disabled as a result of a random event. In the paper I make an attempt to prove the existing parallel between the body crisis that results from loss of capacity, and the identity crisis, which becomes apparent in the title situations of (not)dealing with the new role of a physically disabled individual. At the same time, I try to highlight that acquisition of a body dysfunction contributes to changes in self-perception, leading to disorganization of existential order and destabilization of an individual’s self-definition. There are qualitative data used in the research, collected through a technique of an in-depth free interview and observations, conducted among the disabled individual. Analysis and interpre‑ tation of the research material is performed in accordance with procedures of the grounded theory.
