Wzrost liczby osób starszych w społeczeństwie prowadzi do zwiększenia częstości chorób neurodegeneracyjnych, co stawia nowe wyzwania przed systemem ochrony zdrowia i profilaktyką zdrowotną. Celem artykułu jest omówienie roli diety MIND (Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay) w profilaktyce i wspomaganiu leczenia tych schorzeń.

The increase in the number of older adults in society is leading to a rise in the prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases, posing new challenges for the health care system and preventive health care. This article discusses the role of the MIND (Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay) diet in preventing and treating these diseases. The article outlines the mechanisms of neurodegeneration and the effects of aging on brain function. It describes recent studies on the impact of the MIND diet, which combines elements of the Mediterranean and DASH diets, on the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and dementia. It also identifies the components of the MIND diet that may support cognitive health and delay neurodegenerative changes. The available data suggests that the MIND diet may significantly support brain function and quality of life in older adults, but more research is needed on its long-term effects.
