The article shows some aspects of the vision of the Church and religion that emerge from dystopia by Włodzimierz Kowalewski in Bóg zapłacz! [God re-pray!] (2000) described in the context of mass culture discourse on presence and future of Christianity. Contexts and interpretive approaches boosted in the process of writing- reading novels allow to consider it as criticism on the McDonalization of various spheres of social life and dissemination of New Age spirituality as risk factors for the truth of salvation being proclaimed by the Catholic Church. However, Bóg zapłacz! also voices doubts whether the institutional church has proper receipt for contemporary challenges; whether the necessity for „modernisation” of Christianity will not mean entering the path of conformity.
