The article examines the social issues discussed in the Gwiazdka Cieszyńska – the oldest Polish newspaper in Cieszyn Silesia, during the time when its editor was Father Józef Londzin (1902-1918). The aim of this publication is to show how the newspaper responded to the social issues of the region’s inhabitants, and how it proposed to deal with those issues in their articles. Gwiazdka Cieszyńska is an excellent source of information on everyday life in that period of time. This work describes burning social issues, such as alcohol addiction, domestic violence, illiteracy, family pathologies, poverty, a lack of knowledge about common illnesses, and the adversities faced by peasant families. The newspaper’s target readership mostly consisted of wealthy landowners, and its articles raised issues which the reader would find relevant, therefore their affluence often factored into the solutions the newspaper proposed.
