Benediktos F. Adamantiades was an Ottoman born, ethnically Greek ophthalmologist, born in the city of Prousa (today Bursa, Turkey) in 1875. His major contribution to medicine was the first description of a new clinical entity he named “iritis with recurrent hypopyon” (later to be called Behęet disease). As more and more authorities propose the name “Adamantiades- Behęet disease, and due to the fact that the Greek journals have never been officially indexed, it is of relevance to list a comprehensive catalogue of his works. A big amount of his work is dedicated in infectious diseases, systematic diseases and the pathology of the cornea. It is apparent that he had a special interest in those fields. Also a minority of works deal with the surgery of the posterior pole and cataract usually in association with other diseases. He authored more than 190 works, the majority in Greek, but also in French (where he studied ophthalmology between the years 1911-14) and German. His work however, did not only include medicine. Being a refugee himself, he was an active member of the community of Greek refugees from Asia Minor. As such he authored a small number of articles for the journal of Asia Minor Studies in Athens.
