The Polish system of tackling social exclusion is based on entities of social economy. They are non-government organizations, which are involved in non-profit market activities, instead aiming at such goals as reintegration of their clients or employees. Thus, the organizations are by definition incubators of innovativeness in tackling the problem of social exclusion. The aim of the article is defining the essence and conditions of social economy entities’ innovativeness, such as social integration centers and social cooperatives. The Authors attempt to answer the question to what extent the organizations can make use of management theories created for business entities in order to stimulate their innovativeness. In particular, the positive management theory inspired by Positive Organizational Scholarship concept is of special interest here, including primarily building up positive relationships at work. The empirical basis for the article is an ethnographic study conducted on three entities as well as a focus group interview study carried out in three groups consisting of the representatives from social economy entities. The analysis of the obtained material indicates that low innovativeness of the entities studied is, among other reasons, the effect of faulty management, involving the authorities keeping a large distance, and lack of care about positive relationships among employees. Paradoxically, the managers and employees of the studied entities at the same time consider the link between positive relationships at work and innovativeness as obvious. It is necessary therefore to encourage greater opening of the personnel management of these entities on the inspiration coming from established business practices.
