W opowiadaniu „Berganza” Zsuzsanna Gahse zabiera swych czytelników w piękny i zmysłowy świat mowy poetyckiej. Poznajemy tu świat widziany oczami nieśmiertelnego psa Berganzy, który jest stworzeniem magicznym, gdyż opanował zdolność mowy i niejednokrotnie już odgrywał w literaturze rolę nauczyciela i moralisty. W opowiadaniu dzieli się swoimi przemyśleniami o świecie, zdobytymi w ciągu swego długiego życia, a także – bawiąc się słowem – wciąga nas w świat fantazji i zapoznaje z tajnikami mowy poetyckiej. Berganza zachęca czytelnika do myślenia i współtworzenia dalszej historii nieśmiertelnego psa, charakteryzuje się także mnogością interpretacji. Albowiem – jak stwierdza sama autorka – opowiadanie to czytelnik może interpretować jako historię miłosną, jako prawie biografię lub też jako opowieść o narodzinach nowej poetki. Uwzględniając te różne możliwości interpretacji, w artykule poruszono kilka najważniejszych aspektów opowiadania niemieckojęzycznej pisarki.

In her short story “Berganza” Zsuzsanna Gahse takes her readers to a beautiful and sensual world of poetic speech. Here we get to know the world seen with the eyes of the immortal dog Berganza, who is a magical creature as he learned to speak and many times before in the literature played the role of a teacher and moralist. In the story he shares with his reflections about the world which he formulates on the basis of his long life and – playing with words – draws us into the world of fantasy as well as makes us familiar with the arcane poetic speech. “Berganza” encourages the reader to think and to collaborate on the continuation of the story of the immortal dog, it is also possible to be interpreted in various ways. It can, namely, be interpreted, according to the writer herself, as a love story, an almost biography or as a story of the birth of a new poet. Taking these various possibilities of interpretation into consideration, the authors of the paper elaborate upon a few, most important, aspects of the short story by the German-language writer.
