Proper names are one of the facets which are frequently troublesome for translators. In this article, attention is paid to the names of the European Union institutions. On the basis of a comparison of name structures in Polish and German, it is possible to indicate the naming structures utilized most frequently in both languages. This article can be seen as an attempt to indicate translation strategies of German nominal structures into Polish because independent structures or structures with additional attributes comprise a great number of the names of the institutions.
