Tematem artykułu jest formacja Canadian Rangers, która od lat 70. jest ochotniczą formację rezerwy w siłach zbrojnych Kanady, pełniącą funkcję obrony terytorialnej w trudno dostępnych regionach kraju. Kanada uważa posiadanie Arktyki za jeden z najważniejszych kierunków swej polityki zagranicznej i bezpieczeństwa. W politycznej retoryce szermuje się pojęciem obrony kanadyjskiej suwerenności i zbrojnej obecności na dalekiej Północy. Zadania te wypełnia pięciotysięczna jednostka Rangersów, w pełni przygotowana i wyposażona do bezustannej służby patrolowej. Warunki przyrodnicze, rozległość terytorium Kanady i jej słabe zaludnienie powodują, że rola armii jest znacząca i o wiele większa w zakresie reagowania kryzysowego niż w innych krajach NATO. Stąd też duże znaczenie formacji Rangersów zdolnych do prowadzenia operacji poszukiwawczych i ratunkowych.

The subject of the article is Canadian Rangers, which has been a volunteer reserve formation for 70 years in the armed forces of Canada. It functions as a territorial defence in hard-to-reach areas of the country. Canada regards the Arctic as one of the most important directions of its foreign and security policy. In political rhetoric are proclaimed slogans defending Canadian sovereignty and armed presence in the far North. These tasks fill the five thousand-strong Rangers unit, fully prepared for constant patrol service. Natural conditions, the vastness of Canada’s territory and its low population make the role of the army significant and much greater in crisis response than in other NATO countries. Hence the importance of Rangers formation capable of conducting search and rescue operations.
