Today, the concept of work has been transformed and diverted into something different from its original connotations. As the contemporary societies are converted with the help of the media into consumer societies, in which the key feature is consumption, and in which the base of a social status is consumption, the concept of work has transformed into a new perception based on a reciprocal relation with consumption. In this article, we argue that in the consumer society, the concept of work and related subjects, such as jobs and professions, are defined according to the capacity for earning, which is directly related to the capacity for consumption.
