The secondary school in Tlumach was set up in 1910 as a eight-year state school and as such it operated until 1932 when, due to the so-called Jędrzejewicz education reform it turned into a four- -year gimnazjum (lower secondary school) and a two-year liceum (upper secondary school). In that form it reached the outbreak of World War II. Throughout its existence the school struggled with accommodation problems. It was, however, an important part of the town’s intellectual life, creating educational opportunities for young people from the region. An interesting source which gives us insight into everyday life and work of its students and teachers is a report by an inspector from the Lviv District Board of Education, Dr Jerzy Polański, made in the spring of 1939.
