This study shows the formation of the European bar scene in the interwar period in the context of a specific phenomenon of entertainment, so called the American Bar which became the symbolic point of social gathering for elites. However, it was the catalyst for social progress as an open communication space between genders. The main aim of this study focuses on a comprehensive analysis of the American Bar and its development as the component in the process of “Americanization“, based on the comparison of European cities. It also outlines the various common aspects and differences from many perspectives through the overall atmosphere of bar, forms of bar promotion, the activities of associations, professional components of bar and the everyday socio-cultural impact on the lives of consumers. For an analysis of the phenomenon were chosen Berlin and Prague as two metropolis in which the implementation and intensity of post-war feelings and the option for the new wave of hedonism associated with rising living standards could constantly get into close contact. That is why, American Bar should be perceived and managed under the comparison, while it should be outlined as a specific example of common principles in the field of gastronomic culture and popular kind of entertainment during night-time, but possessing different long-term development as well.
