This article analyses contemporary demographic trends and transformations taking place in the structure of the Polish society. Multigenerational, longer and longer lifespan with decreased retirement age and the family model change have been recognised as the basis of contemporary challenges to social policy. It was stressed that social solidarity in the current dimension in the situation of further ageing of the population will be insufficient. It can be replaced by a conflict of generations the instruments aimed at stabilising the relations between the generations, shaping social relationships, guarantee of social security. An opportunity is the development of the service sector, professional activation 50-60+, environmental integration and strengthening of intergenerational dialogue.
