This issue fits in with the regional history, in the past of Small Homelands, and at the same time in the social role of the historical sciences. The settlement studies enable to reflect upon the planning of a town, of its location, age, and then, upon its spatial development. The author uses the example of Pobiedziska — which boasts a vast array of sources. On the basis of the results of archaeological supervisions as well as of the materials from the Polish Archaeological Record Project, the changes in the occurrence range of the pottery from various chronological intervals were successfully observed. Moreover, having correlated these alterations to the plan of the town and to other sources, the spatial development of Pobiedziska in several phases was estimated.
